MOTIVATION With agile economic growth in East Asia, information technology has been penetrating at a rapid pace into many industries in China and the Chinese speaking countries. In China, almost all computer systems are developed in Chinese. So it is very inconvenience for Chinese DBMS users to use the English version DBMS. The urges in Chinese Database Management System (CDBMS) attract the interest of researchers in Mainland China to conduct research this area. To further develop the applications and exploit its tremendous potential in China, we would like to take this issue as a forum for explorers to discuss the CDBS architecture, Chinese query language, next-generation data management and next-generation applications in China, such as e-commerce, digital libraries, web-based applications, and the use of XML in web query. TOPICS OF INTEREST? We invite the submission of original research contributions including (but not limited to) the areas listed below. o Chinese Database Systems o Advanced Chinese Query Languages o Chinese Natural Language Interface to Databases o Knowledge Representation and Extraction for Chinese query processing o Mining Text in Chinese o querying Web by Chinese Natural Language o Chinese E-Commerce o Automated Language translation on Web and Database o Chinese PDA Architecture and Embedded databases o use XML in Chinese Database Systems IMPORTANT DATES 1 April, 2000 - Submissions due 15 May, 2000 - Reviews due 15 June, 2000 - Revised Papers due 25 June, 2000 - To Editor-in-Chief PAPER SUBMISSION GUIDELINES Each submission should be no more than 15 pages, have a line spacing of 1.5, use no smaller than a 12pt font, and have at least a 1 inch margin on each side.
