Born in Wu Xi, Jiang Su province, professor Wang finished her undergraduate studies in Physics at the Peking University, Beijing in 1968. She completed her Master study major in Computer Sciences and Technology at Department of Information of Renmin University of China, Beijing, in 1981.

Professor Wang has been taken actively part in Research and Development work in Database technology ever since. She started working as an assistant professor in the Department of Information of Renmin University of China right after her graduation in 1981. Invited by Professor S.B Yao, Professor Wang went to University of Maryland, USA as a visiting scholar from 1984 to 1986 to assist in designing and developing an eXtendible DataBase management system, also known as XDB DBMS. Because of her diligent and excellent work, she was promoted to Associate Professor in 1986 after she got back from US. In 1987, she was promoted to be the Director of Institute of Data & Knowledge Engineering and Professor of the Department in 1991.

Professor Wang was appointed as the Dean of the School of Information (1999.6-2004.6).

Prof. Wang had worked on the research of Parallel Database System, advanced database system technology,Natural Chinese language Interface of RDBMS, and Mobile Database System.

Her current research interests include Scalable Advanced Database Technology, Data Warehousing and Business Intelligent technology. She is also interested in Grid Data Management and Searching Databases with Keywords.

Apart from all her work in University, Prof. Wang's involvement of the society of the Computer Technology and Database Technology is phenomenal.
